10/29/2008 New owner of Doug Henry Dunlop/Yamaha FZ1 keeps giving

Given a motorcycle as special as the custom-built Dunlop Tires/Graves Motorsport Yamaha FZ1 that recently went to auction to benefit injured former motocross champ Doug Henry, one would hope that such a machine would end up in the hands of a top-tier enthusiast. Well, rest assured. A gentleman by the name of Bob Briggs purchased the Doug Henry bike, and this avid racing enthusiast from California has now taken possession of this special machine.

Moreover, we are very glad to report that this happy tale continues. Briggs, an avid supporter of Doug Henry and the combined efforts of Dunlop Tires, Road 2 Recovery and Graves Motorsport to raise funds for Henry’s recovery, was more than happy to submit his bid of $19,500 in the unique online auction. Briggs recently took ownership of the custom-built bike from Chuck Graves at the Graves Motorsports headquarters in Van Nuys, CA. During this time, Graves gave Briggs a tour of the shop and spent quite a while talking through the long list of special modifications that had been lavished upon this one-off machine.

“My son and I had been eagerly following the auction since day one,” said Briggs. “I placed a few early bids but was mainly waiting it out to try and win the bid in the dying seconds—and I did.

“It’s an amazing bike, a very special machine that I plan to use to continue raising funds for Doug Henry by displaying the bike at various dealerships. I’m not planning to park it in my garage to keep it all for myself; I want to give the general public the opportunity to see it and I hope they will continue making donations to Doug’s benefit. This bike deserves to be seen.”

So far, the online auction along with the combined total of monies generated for the Doug Henry Benefit via Dunlop Legend poster sales has totaled more than $22,000. And as plans move forward to put this amazing bike on display, that amount should continue to grow.
